About the Course

Intended for SAR personnel who employ helicopters in their response model, this training with the Petzl LEZARD helivac lanyard focuses on safe, controlled patient transfer during helicopter operations in exposed and high-altitude environments. The LEZARD is purpose-built for the critical drop-off and recovery phases of helivac, where stability, speed, and the ability to abort instantly are non-negotiable. A core training emphasis is understanding how the adjustable arm secures the victim and rescuer while maintaining a system that can be immediately disengaged if the aircraft needs to depart unexpectedly.

Practical evolutions reinforce rapid setup, positive attachment, and decisive release under pressure.

Trainees learn to exploit the LEZARD’s instantly ejectable adjustable arm to fully free the victim, rescuer, and helicopter in a single action, reducing entanglement risk and exposure time in the rotor-wash environment. Scenarios deliberately include time stress and degraded communication to reflect real-world helivac conditions.
