About

Ronin Safety and Rescue, and our partners, will be hosting a 4 day rescue competition in and around Penticton, British Columbia, Canada, from September 23-26.

Ronin Safety & Rescue acknowledges that our event in Penticton takes place on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Syilx Okanagan People, specifically within the homelands of the Penticton Indian Band (also known in Nsyilxcən as snpintktn/Penticton). We recognize the Nation’s enduring relationship to these lands and waters and commit to practicing respect, reciprocity, and safety in how we gather and train here.

Penticton

Penticton, British Columbia, is a small city tucked between two lakes—Okanagan and Skaha—surrounded by vineyards, orchards, and sun-baked hills. It’s known for its warm beaches, award-winning wineries, and a relaxed pace that makes it a quintessential Canadian summer getaway.

How to get there?

International visitors typically arrive in Canada via Vancouver or Calgary, both of which offer connecting flights directly to Penticton’s regional airport. Another option is to fly into Kelowna International Airport, located about an hour’s drive north of Penticton, and continue by rental car or shuttle along Highway 97 through the Okanagan Valley. Travelers may also choose to drive from Vancouver, a route of approximately four to five hours that winds east through the Fraser Valley and up over the Coquihalla Highway before descending into the Okanagan, offering striking views of mountains, forests, and lakes along the way. The journey provides a scenic introduction to the region, with rolling hills, vineyards, and lake views leading into the city.

Things to do (non-rescue related)

September in Penticton is that sweet spot where the summer heat lingers but the crowds thin out, making it one of the best times to visit. The wineries are in full harvest mode, so tastings feel especially vibrant, with the smell of crushed grapes in the air and often special events tied to the season. The Penticton Farmers’ Market still runs on Saturdays, overflowing with late-summer fruit and autumn produce. Outdoor adventures are more comfortable in the cooler temperatures—cycling the Kettle Valley Rail Trail, hiking Skaha Bluffs, or floating the Penticton Channel are all still possible without the midsummer chaos. September also brings the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival on Skaha Lake and the Fall Okanagan Wine Festival, which stretches across the valley with tastings, dinners, and vineyard celebrations. Evenings tend to be crisp but clear, perfect for lakeside walks, patio dining, or catching live music at local breweries.
